Obviously, the major activities in Las Vegas, according to what
the town is most famous for, would be gambling. However, gambling
is not the only thing to do in this motivating town.
Las Vegas's landscapes and sunny weather are good complements to
outdoor activities, for those who wish to drive themselves out of
gambling for a while. Golf is extremely popular with the residents
and visitors; there are some top-rank courses available in the
area (also with top-rank prices). Public courses are also
available but, perhaps, needed at least one week in advance
booking.
The desert landscape west of town is a hub of recreational
activity. The hiking and biking trails at Red Rock Canyon National
Conservation Area will take you into a beautiful and undeveloped
wilderness. Horseback tours are also offered in the area. Toiyabe
national Forest, further west, featuring 12,000ft (3700m)
Charleston Peak and trails that wind through pine forests and
desert scrub provides climbing opportunity.
Over the Lake Mead, about 30 miles (50km) east of Las Vegas, boating,
water-skiing or even scuba diving are possible. The
lake's 500 miles (800km) shoreline offers plenty of sunbathing
spots. A wide range of vessels is obtainable for rental for
reasonable prices no matter for cruising or fishing, dinner cruise
is also possible.
